Visiting Wat Pho, or formally Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan, should definitely be on your bucket list. It has been inscribed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO as a “Memory of the World.” Furthermore, its extreme popularity among tourists from all over the world has won a prize from the Thailand Tourism Awards in the category of historical and cultural tourist sites. The temple houses ninety-nine stupas and a gigantic reclining Buddha statue named “Phra Buddhasaiyas,” which is regarded as one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand. There are marble inscriptions of traditional knowledge in various subjects including history, literature, and Thai medicinal practices. Wat Pho is also renowned as the earliest Thai massage school and still offers both massage training and services today. If you’re a fan of massage, you must not miss this original place!
