New Year Countdown with Lights and Sound
The lights and sound of firecrackers are a symbol of the beginning of the new year. Almost every party in Bangkok puts on a spectacular light and sound show, each year bigger than the one before.
Starting from the heart of the city, the celebration in front of Central World is voted as 1 of 10 great places to spend New Year’s Eve by CNN and it is often termed as the Time Square of Asia
This year, the festivity is held under the name “Thailand & AIS Bangkok Countdown 2020”. The party will feature a stage show with a height of 4 floor building and 220 meter long. Over 4,000 firecrackers will be used to execute a 5 minute long firework show, guaranteed to give you the most spectacular sky as you enter into 2020.
ICONSIAM, the latest riverside mall, will hold a countdown party under the name “Amazing Thailand Countdown 2020” where you can celebrate 2020 in style by the iconic Chao Phraya river.
The celebration will feature a firework show, using only environmentally friendly firecrackers. The firework is designed by an expert from Japan, using Thai sticky rice to create a firework of over 1,400 meters long. The concept of the show is “Seven Wonders of Blessings”.

Entering the New Year with Peace and Tranquility for a Happy 2020
For those looking for a peaceful and tranquil way to enter the new year, a Buddhist chanting ceremony has become an increasingly popular alternative on new year’s eve.
Sanam Luang
The Ministry of Culture is holding a Buddhist celebration at Sanam Luang from 30 December to 1 January. On the 30th of December, there will be a parade of the Buddha’s relics from the Grand Palace to Sanam Luang.
On the eve of the 31st of December, the chanting ceremony will be held from 23.10 to 00.10.

Sao Ching Cha (Giant Swing)
The Giant Swing is a place of worship built in the era of King Rama I and it has since become a symbol of Bangkok.
The celebration at the Giant Swing will start from 31st of December. Aside from the midnight chanting, there are also other exhibitions and activities, centered around history and culture.
