Bangkok City Pillar Shrine
Bangkok City Pillar Shrine was built at the same time as the establishment of Bangkok—the new capital city of Siam. The construction was carried out according to a Brahmin belief. A holy ritual was carried out for the installment of the city pillar for the city’s protection and well-being. It is believed that worshipping the city pillar, the Buddha statue and the five city guardian images which are housed inside the shrine brings good fortune and prosperity. People refill an oil lamp that represents the day of their birthday to remove bad luck and strengthen their lives. They also believe that they can predict the success of their future by lifting a heavy elephant sculpture. Try for yourself to see whether your wishes will be answered.
